Auto Qingdao 2007 raised its curtain on Friday. The auto show, which claims to be comparable to the Beijing and Shanghai auto exhibitions, is holding the event for the sixth time in Qingdao, the host city for the 2008 Olympics Regatta.
This year, European luxury carmakers Bentley, Porsche, Ferrari all presented their top models, and the Ferrari 599 made its debut in China. Other mainstream carmakers including Volkswagen, Mercedes, Ford, Lexus, Citroen, Peugeot, Nissan, Honda also took showcased their products at the Qingdao International Exhibition Centre.
At the same time, home-grown brands are making up a considerably large proportion in market share and have a strong presence in the show. Carmaker Geely released its new sedan called Vision.
In recent years, China's auto market continues to increase. Official statistics show the production and sales of vehicles both hit 7 million in China, and are expected to surpass 9 million in 2007. This huge market has attracted many international carmakers to enter the China market.
There will also be a car model contest during the auto show, and visitors are allowed to test drive cars.
