(BEIJING, July 10) -- A ten-day exhibition of Beijing 2008 Landscape Sculptures ended on Tuesday, attracting tens of thousands of visitors.
At the opening ceremony on June 30, President of the Hong Kong Olympic Committee Timothy Fok said the exhibition is a meaningful way to celebrate the tenth anniversary of Hong Kong's return to China and the upcoming Beijing Olympics, as well as the 2009 Hong Kong East Asian Games.
The organizers spent over one million HK dollars in beautifying the surroundings and making up exhibition booths at Hong Kong Park, where a fountain was turned on especially for the event.
The exhibition is the biggest out-door cultural activity in the history of Hong Kong and the first of its kind to bring Hong Kong such strong Olympic flavor.
The 100 plus sculptures made of copper, bronze and fiberglass were selected from more than 2,400 submissions to the contest organizers since 2005. They have toured 16 cities throughout China and round the globe in the past months.
